Design Process

"If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail."
-Benjamin Franklin

Every project, big or small, first starts with a discovery call to discuss the general details of the proposed project, overall budget and expected timeline.  Then the initial consult is scheduled, in your home or remotely, to determine the scope of work required of the designer, so we can prepare quotes for our services to compete your project.   We have chosen to provide our design services in pre-package pricing over an hourly rate and an unknown number of hours.  This keeps you, as the client, informed of both the value and  the cost of our services up front.

the magic of tv vs. reality

Through the magic of tv, a designer walks into a space and instantly has the design, cost and an amazing renderings of the transformed space for the client, and they are in love with it all.  In reality, this process can take weeks or months depending on the project.  Preparing a design can be an evolving, fluid process.  It takes time, pre-planning and discussion between designer, trades people/contractor (if applicable) and the client.  Once there is a solid base to the design, depending on the design package purchased, the design is laid out in visual renderings, floorplans, sample boards and cost sheets for budgeting for review and approval.  This process can be simple and done quickly (ie: selecting paint colors) or it can be a lengthy process (ie: new build or major renovation) depending on the scope of work.  With our online studio, you have access to all of the job information right at your fingertips and time you or your trades require.

designing the details

Once the overall design is approved, that is when we get down to the nitty gritty and all the little details get worked out.  Where required, detail & accurate drawings are drafted, finishes are selected and ordered, contractors and trades are hired, permits are issued and the work is ready to begin.  With smaller projects this phase can be you getting to the work, if you are choosing to and able to complete the work yourself.

(Disclaimer: A certified & insured contractor and/or trades person are required to perform all electrical, plumbing, ventilation and major structural work in compliance with provincial and national building codes).

a plan in action

This is the stage where you start to see everything come to life.  If you choose to have our designer walk with you through the entire process, we work directly with the contractor and trades to see the design plan to completion.  We problem solve, ofter up solutions to issues, walk you through each phase, keeping both you and the trades informed.  With the online studio there for communication, visual aids of products, finishes, renderings and floorplans and providing a checklist of notes, it ensures everyone is on the same page and have access to all the same information in real time, even when it changes.  When it is time to add the finishing touches, our designer will come in to give everything their place in your home and add the layers of  accessories to complete the space.

Our goal will always be getting to know you, our client, so that when you see the finish space, you see yourself reflected in every well thought out detail.  Get in touch with us and lets get started on your project.
